Want to host your own AMVI?
The curriculum is free! Well, the templates, schedule, timeline, and how we scope out the program is, at least.
The real value in the program is the volunteers who make it happen.
Don’t be afraid to personalize sections and days to make things fit the manufacturing feel you’re going for, that fits your students and age groups.
The only thing that can’t change?
No one is permitted to charge for participation into AMVI or to make money off AMVI. This is a volunteer-run program intended to show students all that manufacturing has to offer: And that’s why we’ve offered the curriculum at no cost to anyone who wants it.

Application
Applications are completed online by students.
We found most success by having applications available via Google Forms or Microsoft Forms.
We also asked students to email their resumes to us.
Part of this is a practice in following directions, and part is to see what classes the student has taken that relates to the AMVI program.
Acceptance Letter
After the due date of applications (you’ll have to decide if you are vetting students, or just closing applications after a certain number have applied), go through and email those who have been accepted.
We sent these “Acceptance Letters,” not only to set the tone on the officialness of the program, but to stress the requirements of how every class was required.
It’s the summertime, so there will often be a student asking, “I will be on vacation for this day, is that okay?” It’s your call for how you work your AMVI, but we have always said, “No.” The program is short, so every day counts. It’s a virtual program. Students should be able to make it work if they have committed,
Judge Rubric, Presentation Scoring
Student presentations at the end of the program are far and away the best part of AMVI (at least, in our opinion).
Many students weave concepts they’ve learned into their projects, and some test the waters with projects that they know they’ll be exploring in school that following year. It’s great practice.
With the original AMVI, we solicit volunteer judges online, and get anywhere from 4-7 judges a day (for a group of 12-17 students).
We have worked with a couple of different scoring methods.
One rubric can be found here.
Another can be found here, through Google Forms. Judges were asked to score in between presentations. It made things very easy to download the final spreadsheet, run totals (or averages, depending on how you want to score), and determine winners for each category:
Most Creative Solution
Most Innovative Solution
Most Engaging Presentation
Certificates of Completion
While some students earn the top awards post-presentations, all students who complete the program (meaning – they show up to all classes, turn in all assignments on time, and engage in class), they are emailed a Certificate of Completion.
